Bookkeeping. I added Verizon (VZ) as Pick #8 for my New World for Dividend Investing Special Report (You can find it in the Special Report section of this site along with all the content on this market and its trends for Dividend Income investors. But I’m reposting it as a stand alone pick so no one misses it. Dividend Pick #8: Verizon (VZ) The question for Verizon–and for dividend investors–is remarkably similar to the question for AT&T (T): Can a management that has run up a huge debt load find the discipline to use the company’s immense cash flows to pay down debt?

Let’s say you’re a dividend income investor. You need cash income in retirement. Or you want your portfolio to generate cash now so you can invest in new opportunities. Or you just want the extra safety and lower risk that owning a stock with a substantial dividend can bring. Whatever your reasons–and I can think of a lot more–this is a particularly challenging financial market for dividend income investors. But I do think there are strategies dividend income investors can successfully pursue even in this challenging market. In the rest of this Special Report I’m going to explain the three ways I think you should be thinking about dividend income investing in this market. And then I’m going to give you 10 dividend stocks that I think are especially well-suited to producing income (and price appreciation, which is always nice even if you’re an income investor) in this market environment. First pick just posted–Pfizer

Today’s Quick Pick is Verizon ( VZ). Verizon’s stock is up after recently reporting earnings. Verizon reported adjusted earnings of $1.21, up only 4 cents from the expected $1.17. The modest surprise was not what boosted the stock, however. Revenue was down year over year to $32.6 billion from $33.79 billion and the earnings were lower than last year’s $1.31 during this quarter. So why was there a bump in the stock? Verizon was expected to report a loss of 9,000 subscribers as competitors, like T-Mobile, chipped away at its customer base, but the company actually gained 8,000 postpaid subscribers. The stock has a great dividend of 7.68%, but the worry was, if Verizon continued to bleed subscribers, it would no longer be able to support the dividend. With the number of subscribers going up, that dividend looks to be safe and the stock will remain in my dividend portfolio on JubakPicks and JubakAM.

This is what I wrote yesterday in my Special Report. (You can find all the picks (so far 2) and the strategy I’m using if you go to the full Special Report.) I think Verizon provides a very useful checklist of what to look for in long-term safe picks that yield 6% or more. Which is why I’m putting it in the leadoff position on this list. Verizon isn’t anyone’s favorite stock right now. And it’s pretty clear why.

My one-hundred-and-seventy-fourth YouTube video: “Quick Pick Verizon” went up today. Verizon (VZ) is hated by everybody, but if you’re looking for a high-yield stock (safe but without a whole lot of price appreciation in all probability) with consistent dividend increases, Verizon will get the job done for your portfolio. I own it in my Dividend Portfolio and love the yield.

Today, I’m going to begin to give you specific picks so you can start to fill out the three buckets I recommended in Part 1 of this Special Report. Filling the long-term bucket is probably the most fun–who doesn’t like imagining the wealth that will roll in from finding the next Nvidia (NVDA) or from investing in the current Nvidia. The short-term bucket is the most challenging since it requires you to confront the current paucity of assets throwing off yields of even 2% head on.But let’s start there since the other buckets hang off the short-term bucket.

There's a consensus on Wall Street that the roll out of 5G wireless technology will be a hugely disruptive event. 5G is the successor to 4G (well, like, Duh) Â the current standard for network technology introduced commercially in 2009. 5GÂ could end up being 100 times...

In the week ahead earnings reports will test theories about growth in specific sectors and the economy as a whole. For example, on Tuesday, April 23, we’ll get tests of the “consumer economy” with reports from Coca-Cola (KO), Procter & Gamble (PG) and Verizon (VZ). Coke is projected to show a drop of a penny to 46 cents a share from 47 cents in the year-earlier quarter. P&G is projected to pick up 4 cents a share from the first quarter of 2018 to $1.04 and Verizon is expected to see earnings move up to $1.16 a share from $1.11. Those all set, in my opinion, hurdles that are relatively easy to jump. But the growth is already so modest that any miss could throw these big consumer stocks into a year over year earnings downturn. Which would be a bad way to start the week.Â
