Lending by China’s banks rose again in September. That isn’t good news. And I’ll bet that it will lead to other steps to restrain bank lending after the annual Communist Party meeting, which begins on October 15, is over next week.

So far no signs that growth in China is about to plunge. According to government data released on Friday, September 10, China’s industrial output climbed 13.9% in August from the levels of August 2009. Also no signs, however, that the country’s attempts to slow inflation are working.

Numbers released today, September 1, in China show manufacturing rebounding in August after a weak July.
It could mean that China’s “slowdown” won’t be as slow as feared. Or it could mean absolutely nothing since manufacturing activity usually speeds up in August.
