Yesterday European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet warned that the bank was exercising “strong vigilance” on inflation. That’s the central bank’s signal to the financial markets to expect an increase in interest rates in April.

Just 10 days after the People’s Bank raised its benchmark interest rates, China’s central bank has boosted reserve requirements for the country’s banks. Today’s 0.5 percentage point increase comes after seven earlier reserve requirement ratio hikes since the beginning of 2010.
