Today I posted my two-hundred-and-forty-first YouTube video: Quick Pick U.S. Natural Gas Fund Want to grow your portfolio and protect it too? In the toughest investing market in 40 years? Today’s Quick Pick is United States Natural Gas Fund (NYSEARCA: UNG). The chart for UNG is horrendous, with a peak in August and a steady plummet after that. For 2022, the stock was up about 12%, thanks to late summer surges in price, as natural gas was bid up under the expectation that the war in Ukraine and sanctions on Russia would cause Europe to run out of natural gas. But year to date for 2023, it’s down 44%, as Europe proved better at replacing Russian gas than anyone had expected. As the end of winter approaches, European natural gas stockpiles are at about 65%–above normal for this time of year. UNG has a pattern of up years following down years–in 2020 UNG saw a 43% decline, and in 2021, a 35% increase. As the price of natural gas goes down, demand spikes as buyers look for the cheapest fuels and purchase more natural gas, which sends the pendulum swinging back upward for natural gas providers and funds that track the commodity. Between now and mid-March is a good time to get in on natural gas as we look for the upswing when China and Asia start looking at cheaper natural gas prices and Europe looks to get its stockpile back to 100%.

Adding Equinor as another energy play to my Jubak Picks Portfolio tomorrow

Adding Equinor as another energy play to my Jubak Picks Portfolio tomorrow

Today, Wednesday, February 8, Equinor (EQNR) reported a record $74.9 billion adjusted operating profit for 2022. That more than doubled the previous record. If you’re looking to add an energy stock to your portfolio ahead of a year that looks likely to be a good one for energy stocks, I’d suggest Equinor. I’ll be adding it to my Jubak Picks Portfolio tomorrow with a target price of $40 a share.

My Quick Pick this week is Cheniere Energy (LNG), a liquified natural gas producer that I currently own in my Volatility Portfolio on JubakAM.com and plan to add to my Jubak Picks portfolio as well. The stock has fallen as U.S. natural gas prices have taken a hit after a fire at the Freeport liquified natural gas facility that has caused a backup in U.S. LNG exports. I think it’s a great time to get in on this long-term story at Cheniere, which just announced that it had given the go-ahead to the construction of a new LNG chain at its Corpus Christi facility. That chain won’t be in operation until 2025 but I see the demand for U.S. LNG continuing to rise through then.

I see an opportunity in Tellurian (and its penny stock) and its ambitious plans for adding new liquified natural gas supply in the U.S. Tellurian (TELL) reminds me of Cheniere Energy (LNG), which was also a long term/high-risk in LNG when I first bought it. (I now own it again in my Jubak Picks Portfolio.) TELL is currently constructing its first plant, with plans for first LNG in 2026. But the fact that they’ve started construction and have inked contracts with Shell makes me confident that the company will be able to raise the money it needs to meet its goal. And certainly all the market forecasts say there will be plenty of demand for LNG over the next decade. The stock is volatile, and it is a very longterm play. Which is why I’ll be adding it to my “Millennial Portfolio–for investors with more time than money” on Monday.
